About Persian - Farsi Language

The language you are about to learn has two names, Persian and Farsi. Persian originated from the language of Ancient Persia around 500 BC. Persian is a member of the Iranian branch of Indo-European languages family. The Persian language is extensively spoken in Iran, Afghanistan and Tajikistan by about 137 million people, which includes 74 million native, and 63 million who speak it as a second language.

The people of Persia called their country Iran (derived from the word Arian) in 1935, and their language Farsi, although some say the ancient “Persian” developed in a place called “Fars” in the South of Iran. This language was eventually called “Farsi” because of this region.

There are three main dialects of Persian: Farsi is the most modern dialect of Persian spoken in Iran, Dari is Persian spoken in Afghanistan, and Tajik is Persian spoken in Tajikistan. About 50% of the Afghan population speaks Dari, and Dari has always been used for business and official government transactions.

There are significant numbers of Farsi speakers around the world, such as Bahrain, USA, Europe, Israel, UAE, Oman, and Azerbaijan.

Our Approach

JS Persian language courses are designed to suit the learners’ specific needs and goals. We offer beginning, intermediate, and advanced class levels in the Persian language. However, the instructors do not follow a fixed curriculum for each student. Our instructors focus on the student's primary objectives in learning the language. Whether the student's goal is to learn survival Persian before taking a trip to a Persian language country, or to learn the proper vocabulary to speak, read, and write in Persian, we can design our course to meet the student's social, educational, and professional needs.

Whether survival, basic, intermediate or advanced, the key areas covered in all our Persian language courses include: Spoken Fluency, Listening Skill, Pronunciation & Accent, Reading, and Writing skills.
